Repost: Do the One Thing Every Day
When we live by the passions of our heart we are happy people, and if we focus on being who we were intended to be; who God made us to be, we are fulfilled and we know our purpose in life. What I have found is that most people do not know what their purpose is, what God has called them to do. We wonder and we flounder in our lives trying to be “good Christian” people, loving the Word of God and trying to be obedient to what it says but there still is an emptiness that is not filled. However, the Lord has wonderful plans for us – to be people full of passion, wonder, and usefulness , look at:
Jeremiah 29: 11-14 – ” For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the Lord…”
To seek the Lord for what it is He has called you to do, think about what it is that ‘moves’ you, that your heart desires and what you have real feelings for. Say you love photography, racing bikes, mountain climbing, or writing. How would you begin the process of fulfilling those things that you have always wanted to do. It takes one step- the one thing- to begin.
Let’s say you have a love of photography but you have no camera except your little digital that is for family pics or even your smart phone…just take pictures! You don’t need a big, fancy camera to capture images that your creative eye sees. As you are faithful and do the one thing every day, you’ll soon find it easier to “see” the quality of images that you take. Another step is to save for a used camera to continue your love of photography. It only takes one step done with faithfulness to take you to places that you’ve never dreamed of before. Who knows you may capture an image that wins a photo contest and you get recognized for your ability to do great work.
This principle is translates into our natural abilities as well as our spiritual ones. I’ve heard of many people who wanted to be a preacher but had no pulpit and would go out to a secluded place and preach to the hills, the trees, and the wind! It built their confidence, it built vision, and it built practice; of which helped their ability to live their heart’s desire and eventually they became anointed in their calling.
The encouragement for you today is for you to take your first step. Go for it, step out in faith, live your dream, and you’ll find your purpose.
Thomas Edison’s teachers said he was “too stupid to learn anything.” He was fired from his first two jobs for being “non-productive.” As an inventor, Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. When a reporter asked, “How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?” Edison replied, “I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.”
